Danger sign

Kites Banned from Canadian Hole
Power lines too close to launch area

Although the sign between Avon and Buxton says "Haulover Day Use Area," locals and windsports enthusiasts refer to the spot as Canadian Hole. Why? Drive by the parking lot sometime in April or October. You'll be amazed by how many Canadian license plates you see!

Canadian Hole has developed a reputation as the premiere windsurfing spot on the East Coast. Once kiteboarding started to become popular, it was a great location for that as well. Recently, kites were banned from Canadian Hole due to the close proximity of power lines to the launching area. Now it has been designated for windsurfers only and kiteboarders are encouraged to launch from Kite Point, just south of Canadian Hole.

Click here to see a satellite map of the area. Kite Point is the piece of land jutting out to the left towards the bottom of the map. Zoom in to see the Haulover Day Use Area parking lot and restrooms just north of Kite Point.

Have we mentioned that Penny Lane and Sound Mind & Body are just minutes away from Canadian Hole?
