A quick summary of what's in this issue
by Rick & Shelby Kinnaird
Owners, Penny Lane and Sound Mind & Body
This is the quiet time of year on Hatteras Island. Many
businesses are closed and their owners have taken off for a little R&R.
One we know is skiing in Colorado; another sent us a note from Hawaii.
The Avon Fishing Pier says they are open seven days a week but the weather
report on their web site hasn’t been updated since mid-November
2005. Phone messages go unanswered. Welcome to life on Hatteras in February.
A long time friend of Rick's, Dean Jordan (above), has been in the kite
business for years and he’s got an interesting venture which we’ll
talk about in this issue – towing ships with kites. Crazy? He towed
a sail boat from the Caribbean to the Chesapeake Bay last year. If the
price of fuel continues to climb, towing your boat with a kite to get
out to where the fish are biting might be very attractive, especially
if it saved you hundreds of dollars.
We'll also give you a little bit of assistance if you're planning a wedding
on Hatteras Island. We did it back in June 2004 and it was really pretty
easy. We aren't going to provide you an exhaustive list of options, but
we'll tell you what decisions we made and what vendors we used. Did we
mention that Sound
Mind & Body is a great place for a wedding? Plus you can rent
Penny
Lane as well (for a 5% discount off both houses) and put some of your
wedding guests right next door!
